Five great reasons to book with Extreme Fishing Charters

There are a few fishing charters in Rarotonga, but we think we're up there with the best. Here's why...

  1. We've got a great boat - Travel in comfort on board our modern boat designed and built especially for fishing. With a range of onboard amenities and the option to bring your own alcohol and music, you're all set for the perfect day.
  2. We've got great equipment - Fishing might be about the skill of the angler (and the cooperation of the fish) but having the right gear certainly helps. So, we've invested in Penn reels and rods to give you the best.
  3. We've got experience - We have plenty of experience with boats and fishing here in Rarotonga and in New Zealand and we bring that knowledge to help you get the most out of your trip.
  4. We're personal - Gavin and Troy skipper the charters, so you're always dealing with the boss and getting that personal service. You can hire the boat for a private charter and we can customise fishing options or tours to suit you.
  5. We give you dinner - If we catch any fish then we'll give you a generous portion to take home for dinner and there's nothing like fresh fish for dinner.

Extreme Fishing Charters, formerly Black Watch Charters, from Avatiu Harbour in Rarotonga's Avarua District is owned and operated by New Zealanders Gavin Henderson and Sandy Tofts. Our Cook Island fishing charters are run on a purpose-built 30ft sports fishing boat named Moana which means Ocean, the deep (blue) sea outside the barrier reef in Rarotongan (and Maori).

Gavin - Owner and Skipper

Gavin has been fishing since he was two-years-old and has spent his whole life on the water. Originally from Hawkes Bay NZ, Gavin has lived on the beautiful Kapiti Coast for 20 years but prefers the warm, relaxed and perfect lifestyle that Rarotonga has to offer and the crystal clear warm water.

During his time in New Zealand he has become a highly experienced and well-known fisherman and organised a number of fishing competitions on the Kapiti Coast including Tuna-tastic a local family competition and fundraiser.

The biggest fish he has ever caught was a Marlin in Rarotonga.

Troy - Skipper/Deckhand

Troy is Gavin's son and has been fishing the local waters now for nearly five year. A crazy keen fisherman who lives to be out on the water, even on his days off you will find him out there, fishing traditional ways with poitos or trolling for that next big game fish. If the fish are there, he certainly will be just as excited as you to help you land that dream fish.
